CAP is quickly entering the electronic age. Internet technology has brought a medium for communicating essential information to the members of the organization, the public, and the customers. Internet systems allow CAP members to keep information up to date, explore information, and keep abreast of current events. e-mail is one of the leading technologies that keeps CAP communicating. e-mail offers the ability to obtain receipts and insure that the recipient has read the message. Some wings use e-mail lists to send mass e-mail called listservs. A listserv is an e-mail address that redirects e-mails to multiple recipients. The list can be configured to show a list of the recipients or hide them, keeps logs of those mails sent, be password protected so only authorized individuals can send to it, and allow critical messages to reach the most people with the least effort. The World Wide Web system is also a benefit to internet systems. Servers can host pages, like this one, that can disseminate vast amounts of information that can be recalled by the end-user with a simple click of a mouse. Advanced features like File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Secure Socket Layer (SSL), Active Server Protocol (ASP), and many others allow the manipulation of information with many levels of control to insure the information isn't released to those who don't need it, and updated by only those who are permitted, database searches, and online forms are also benefits. |
